How to Get to the ReserveThe Hermitage of Braid and Blackford Hill Local Nature Reserve is accessible from a number of locations:
There is free car parking at all these locations. If you are travelling by bus the most accessible entrances are Blackford Pond and Braid Road. For uptodate bus information we suggest you check the Lothian bus routes. Getting to the Hermitage of Braid: From Edinburgh City Centre the best bus routes to take are the Lothian Buses numbers 11, 15, 15A and 16 (& 5?) from the south, that is the Edinburgh Castle side, of Princes Street. These routes pass through shopping areas of Bruntsfield and Morningside and you should get out on Comiston Road near its junction with Greenbank Crescent. Head one block east to Braid Road along Braidburn Terrace and look for the main entrance to the Hermitage of Braid at the dip in the road. This is the western entrance to the Hermitage of Braid and Blackford Hill Local Nature Reserve. Getting to Blackford Hill: From the City Centre the best bus route is the number 41 from the Mound at its junction with Princes Street. This route passes through Marchmont and Blackford area. Get off on West Mains Road at Observatory Road and go up the Hill through the big red sandstone archway at the foot of this road. This is the eastern entrance to the Hermitage of Braid and Blackford Hill Local Nature Reserve. Getting to Blackford Pond: The 41 comes from the City Centre (see above) and stops near the Blackford Pond entrance. The 38 also stops there but follows a peripheral route. Getting to the Blackford Glen Road Entrance: The 7, 37 & 47 stop near the Blackford Glen Road entrance. |
